The Dad Fund was started in 2003 by Lyndon Barends, Group CEO of Primedia Sport former director at Standard Bank and former CEO of the National Olympic Committee of SA Lyndon established the Dad Fund in honour of Daniel Arthur Douman (DAD) who was an outstanding community leader. He touched the lives of many while serving within the South African educational system and his personal character attributes are those that the fund would like to promote in the youth of today.

Daniel Arthur Douman attended Good Hope College then proceeded to complete his higher education at Helderberg College, qualifying as a pastor. He entered the educational field and taught at Good Hope College from 1975 until 1992. Many students will never forget his generosity and fatherly support when he served as the Dean of Boys at the Good Hope College Hostel. In 1992 he returned to his calling and served as a dedicated and concerned pastor until his untimely death in 1999.

Daniel Douman became Lyndon’s mentor and inspired him to overcome the  challenges of his tough circumstances and to educate himself. This led to him completing a MBA and  becoming the business and community leader he is today.

The memory of Daniel Douman has been left with us as a legacy to remind us that all things are possible if you only believe.
